Find inspiration
My gym reopened and I’m feeling it. I went to two classes last week and two more this week. As usual, I did plenty of things I wouldn’t do on my own.
I did lots of running, rowing, burpees, push-ups and plenty of other things that will help me become more fit. Most of the workouts were festivals of suffering. I’m unlikely to exert such effort without a coach pushing me or other people suffering beside me.
The best part is that I just need to show up. Once I’m there, I will do what the coach asks, no motivation required. As much as it hurts at the time, I know it’s good for me in the long run.
Where do you find inspiration to do the things you need that you might otherwise avoid?
Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

How long does it take to make a change?
According to Trish, me making a change is like flipping a switch. As Trish describes it, “One day you announce you are going to do something and then you just do it every day. I have never seen anyone else do that and stick with it." Do I really find it so...
The Joy of Applied Movement Neurology (AMN)
It has been a few years now since I began studying AMN. As I continue to explore the incredible potential of what what we do, I am still amazed by how much we improve the our clients’ lives. It has been an amazing journey, and I look forward to seeing...
Don’t pigeonhole me
I really love music, but it has been challenging to find new albums that I really love. One way I find new music is recommendations from other people. Trish loves to mention that she turned me onto Nine Inch Nails. My friend Niki turned me onto The...
Is what you do, who you are?
I have has some interesting discussions recently about who we are versus what we do. For example, Trish and I were discussing how I think of her as an artist, but she thinks of herself as someone who has made some paintings. Do you need to be working on...
The story you tell yourself
The first time I recall someone talking about “your story” was back in 2013 at Ido Portal’s Movement Camp in Singapore. One of the coaches, Jozef Frucek said, “You are your story. The story you tell yourself.” This was one of the great lessons of that...
Frozen Lake
Frigid wind blows through bare trees as snow falls lightly the frozen lake groans Inspired by an early winter walk at Chocorua Lake. I am grateful to live in such a beautiful place.
What’s important
If you want to know what’s important to someone, look where they spend their time and money. What do your schedule and finances say about what’s important to you? If you're happy with your answers, be thankful that you're so fortunate. If those things...
Live in the present
Playing tennis reminds me of the value of focusing on the present. When you dwell on previous mistakes, you tend to make more of the same. Instead, observe your error, decide what to do differently and move on. Has dwelling on past mistakes ever worked out...
Better never than late?
One of the executives I worked for had a twist on the saying, “better late than never.” His version was, “better never than late.” Being on time for some things was so critical that it was on time or not at all. Considering that he sometimes met with top...
Find a way
When you commit, you'll find a way. You can overcome any obstacle, creativity is your friend. If you don't commit, there's always a reason why you won’t execute. The slightest challenge can derail you; any excuse will give you an out. Think about what’s...
Water under the bridge
You can head in the same direction for a long time and still decide to stop or make a change. The key is to recognize that the decision is yours. You have a choice even when your momentum makes it seem like you don't. You might think to yourself, "This is how it’s...
Getting there is half the fun (by Trish)
On a recent trip, I lucked out with a window seat both ways… my favorite! Airline travel has changed quite a bit since the days when I was living in London and jet setting all over Europe (or beyond). Back then, Jim and I racked up so many miles that I often had the...
