Accountability

Accountability

Sometimes we know what we need to do and accountability keeps us doing it. It may be enough to know someone else is paying attention.

A daily publishing deadline is what keeps me writing. I often consider moving to a different schedule to give myself a break. Then I remind myself of how much this project has improved my mental health and prompted me to do things I had put off for too long. Hearing from readers about what they’ve been inspired to do is also motivation to keep publishing every day.

The easiest topics on which to write are my own thoughts. The process clarifies my thinking and exposes holes in my understanding or inability to articulate ideas. Additionally, regular reflection shows me the good and bad in myself. Gaps in my knowledge, insufficient skill and awareness of my flaws all inspire me to improve. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do and find inspiration to take action that you might otherwise avoid.

Where does accountability keep you moving forward?

PS – If you need an accountability partner to help you take action, post to comments or send me a message.

Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Keep Going

Keep Going

One of the keys to success is to keep going at the point when most people quit. When things get tough and you want to stop, remind yourself why you do what you do. If your why is enough, you have a reason to keep going. If not, maybe it's time to change...

Expectations

Expectations

Managing expectations can be tricky. If you over promise, your inability to deliver is bound to disappoint. Do this repeatedly and you might be labeled unreliable. If you under promise, the promise itself might disappoint. If you then over deliver, it...

Learn from mistakes

Learn from mistakes

Once you make a mistake, there's no taking it back. Recognize it, fix it if you can, identify anything to do differently and move on. It's easy to dwell on mistakes and beat ourselves up for what we should've done differently. You can't change the past, so...

Do you give what you want?

Do you give what you want?

Trish and I had an amusing interaction this morning. She was lamenting that she had not yet settled in to her new schedule. With my coaching hat on, I asked her, “How would you settle in to your schedule?" Somehow she misheard me and thought I asked “Why...

Can you win an argument?

Can you win an argument?

The next time you find yourself in an argument, stop and reflect on what you are trying to achieve. What will you get if you win? Arguments have very little upside for the winner, and lots of downside for everyone involved. An argument suggests that people...

Make a Difference

I started studying Applied Movement Neurology (AMN) because of the amazing results I got from treatments by one of the founders, David Fleming. Seemingly small neurological calibrations got such significant results that it felt like magic. I jumped on the...

Magnesium oil

I use just a few supplements and magnesium oil is at the top of my list. If you ever suffer muscle spasms, it might be just what you need. When a muscle is twitching or starts to spasm, I spray some magnesium oil on it. Within a few minutes, my muscle relaxes and the...

What can you do?

What can you do?

It’s easy to focus on the things we can't do. It’s more useful to recognize our limits and do what we can. The more you focus on what you can’t do, the more likely you'll be stuck where you are. Can you identify one thing that will move you forward? Do that every time...

The right dose

The right dose

If you want to get fit, your training stimulus must be at least the minimum effective dose. Any less than that and your body will ignore it. Also keep in mind that training benefits come during recovery. If you get more than the maximum recoverable dose, you wasted...

Cost versus value

Cost versus value

Some things that are expensive are a great value. Cheap versions of the the same things might not be. Sometimes an attempt to save some money turns out to be a waste. I was in Manchester a month ago and decided to hit a Marshall’s and get a bargain on some socks and...

Chores no longer seem like chores

Chores no longer seem like chores

As I was cleaning up the dishes 15 minutes after dinner a couple nights ago, I realized how much I have changed. When I was a child and young adult, I avoided doing dishes and probably whined a bit when I had to do them. Maybe the key to my change was repetition. From...
