Persistence in relationships
I’ve written previously about persistence in overcoming problems. I’ve also written about the need to keep going when things get tough. I realized today that another area where persistence pays off is in relationships (healthy ones). (If you have a toxic relationship, this might not apply. At some point, you might need to decide whether you’re better off cutting ties.)
Relationships are like a garden. They flourish when you are thoughtful about the future, removing weeds and pruning unhealthy bits with care. If you’re careless and let it run wild, eventually is will be a bit of a mess.
Like any lifelong couple, Trish and I have had our ups and downs. After more than two decades, our willingness to let the other soak up the sun and our persistent radical honesty (pruning weeds) has paid off. Our relationship is the best it’s ever been.
What do you do to nurture your relationships?
Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.
