Perfectly unexpected (by Trish)
Before writing my “How long is a piece of string?” blog post, I jokingly posed that question to Jim. Without batting an eye or missing a beat, he answered, very confidently… with a perfectly, unexpected answer… “As deep as a hole!?”
We both got a good laugh as we realized how well his imprecise answer matched my vague question.
One of the things I have always loved about Jim, from the very start, is his sense of humor. Sometimes dry, sometimes a bit sarcastic, sometimes punchy and silly…he has made me laugh and kept me on my toes since we met. Even after nearly 28 years, he can still surprise me and the unexpected laughter is often just what I need.
Who, or what, provides an element of surprise in your life?
Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Messages from your parents
I got into a fair bit of trouble when I was a kid. One of the things that seems funny now is when I did something that my parents did not like and I said, “but I thought…,” my step-father would respond, "That’s what you get for thinking." Not sure exactly...
Forge a new path
I was snowshoeing with Roli and I noticed that he naturally stayed on the path that was there from other people. At one point, we headed off to break a new path and he sometimes did not know which way to go. It was also a lot of work compared to following...
Accept compliments graciously
Why does someone compliment you? They either want you to feel good or they want you to know they noticed something good. I used to feel self-conscious and always down-played compliments. Not sure why, but I would focus on the areas where I fell short...
Over-trained or under recovered?
I keep seeing comments on Instagram and FaceBook about overtraining versus under-recovering, people often suggest that the term overtraining is used incorrectly, but not providing examples. A few days ago, I read one example that stuck with me. "Just like...
Now or never
When time is of the essence, seize the moment. Once it’s past, there's no going back. I was working this afternoon and planned to take Roli for a walk when I finished. I looked out the window and saw amazing colors shining through the trees. Change of plans - walk...
See what’s possible
To accelerate your progress or bust through plateaus, surround yourself with people that are better than you. Your ego might take a hit, but it’ll be worth it. When you see what’s possible, you’re more likely to overcome your own limiting beliefs. There’s an old...
