Happy Birthday Roli!
A special day today as we celebrate Roli’s 7th birthday. Although approaching middle-age, he is as nutty as ever. He nearly bounces off the walls if stuck in the house too long and plays exuberantly every day.
When we adopted him, he was 3 years old and thin as a scarecrow. He did not seem at all like our previous Huskies, Schobel and Silverbear. The night we agreed to adopt him, I was so nervous about how he would fit in our family that I barely slept.
Luckily, my anxiety was unfounded and Roli fits in perfectly. He lazily enjoys morning cuddles, gets us out for frequent walks and inspires us to do big hikes on the weekends. He also reminds us to play every day, preferably hide and seek.
These four years with Roli have been full of ups and downs (porcupines are not much fun) and better than I imagined they would be. It’s a good reminder that you can’t judge a book by its cover and we all should live life to the fullest every day.
What do you do to make the most of every day?
Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Skill, talent and fulfillment
What if your talent lies in areas that you do not find fulfilling? Should you do it anyway, otherwise you are wasting your talent? What if you could identify an area that is fulfilling in which you can develop skill? When you think about where you spend...
Get it done
When Trish was working on her Masters in Architecture thesis, the founding partner (Peter) of her firm told her, “You know what is most important about your theses? Get it done.” I remember Trish and I debating this back then. She thought it was not that...
Do the right things
Before you focus on doing things right, make sure you do the right things. No matter how well you do something, it will not matter if it does not help you achieve your goal. For example, in your quest to lose weight, you diligently go to the gym 5 times...
Theory and Practice
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they’re different. It is a funny saying, but so true. You can read about or develop theories around what should work, but you will not know what really works until you apply it. In many areas,...
Make a new habit
It’s often said that it takes 21 days to make a new habit. The idea is that your new behavior becomes automatic after 21 days. Is this a minimum, an average or something that sounds good so it stuck? Like most things, it depends on you. A compelling “why” could help...
More gifts
Yesterday’s blog reminded me of another memory. When Trish and I decided to get married in Sedona, Arizona, we knew that some people that we wanted there might not be able to make it. A woman at work (different than the one I mentioned yesterday) told me, “You should...
