A small effort is better than none

A small effort is better than none

I sometimes put off giving Roli an afternoon walk, thinking it’s going to be a big effort…Get him in the car, drive down to the lake, walk around for 30 or 40 minutes, back in the car to drive home.

Then we get into the garage and he walks past the car to go to the door. He doesn’t care about going somewhere else, he’s happy to walk around our neighborhood. Sometimes it even seems that he’d rather not get in the car. Maybe he’s wondering why we go to all the trouble of driving somewhere when we could just go for a walk.

What do you avoid that you could do with a small effort?

Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Expectations

Managing expectations can be tricky. If you over promise, your inability to deliver is bound to disappoint. Do this repeatedly and you might be labeled unreliable. If you under promise, the promise itself might disappoint. If you then over deliver, it...

Boredom

Trish and I were talking about retirement. Some people dream of it, others cannot imagine what they would do with all their free time and say, “I would get so bored!" I can’t remember the last time I was bored. I can easily imagine being retired and spending all of my...

Diagnosis – lever or crutch?

Diagnosis – lever or crutch?

Some diagnoses are descriptions of symptoms, with no indication of the cause. If your diagnosis is idiopathic (cause unknown), what use is it? I’ve been struggling to articulate my ideas around these limitations and I thought of a simple analogy. You come home at...
