It’s a two-fer! (by Trish)
Since Jim started on his recent mission to rid us of RBF (resting bitch face), it has become a little game we play.
We’ll be driving somewhere and I’ll be contemplating something and he’ll suddenly say something silly to make me laugh. “Gotcha!” he exclaims, “I cured you!” My knee jerk response at first was “What are you talking about? I didn’t have RBF… my expression was just neutral, wasn’t it?”
That’s when he has to break the news that my “neutral” face happens to be a little bit frown. What?! Who knew? As I have known since childhood, if you keep making that face, it will stick like that! I definitely don’t want that, so I am doing my best to think happy or amusing thoughts more often in order to turn that frown upside down.
Today we noticed that each time he cured my RBF, he also cured his own. Apparently it’s nearly impossible to wear a frown while making someone else smile or laugh. Two-for-one… what a deal!
What can you do to make other people (and yourself) smile?
Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

It will only take a minute
Getting back to a daily tidying habit is refreshing. It has reminded me of the little things we do (or don’t do) that add up to something bigger. Little things like putting dishes and clothes away before going to bed. "It will only take a minute" can be a good reason...
Seek dissent
If you want to grow, you might want to venture out of your bubble. How do you know if you’re in a bubble? One sign is that you always see and hear opinions that agree with you. It's easy to find information that supports your views, but what if you’re...
Creativity
Deep creativity requires strong technique. Otherwise, you always fall short of your vision. As my former movement coach Ido Portal suggested, isolate, integrate, then improvise. Isolate to develop a foundation of skills upon which you can build. Once...
July Challenge
I can hardly believe we are in July. The year is flying by, but I am doing my best to make the most of it. My June listening challenge was a great success. The first week was more challenging than expected, but my listening habits improved dramatically...
Decision by asymmetry
Pro and con lists are great to evaluate important choices. Comparing the significance of potential downsides and upsides can be even more helpful. Car insurance is a good example. You trade a known downside of $100 or $200 per month for reasonable certainty that you...
The value of struggle
There are times that I wish learning things were easier. A couple of my current hobbies require hours and hours of practice to make even slow progress. I need to remind myself that most of the things that I've enjoyed over the years took dedication. Although some...
