Change up your rotation

Change up your rotation

It’s easy to get into a routine. We tend to enjoy the same food, music and wine every week. It takes some effort to break the cycle and keep things fresh.

We have a rotation of meals that we eat just about every every week. Occasionally one of us finds a new recipe to try and sometimes that replaces an old one. We don’t have many takeout options and the main thing that changes our rotation is the fresh meat and vegetables that are available.

When we find a new album we love, we tend to listen to it frequently for a few weeks or more. Otherwise, we use iTunes to shuffle our favorite songs that have played least recently. We also have a few friends who send suggestions so we regularly get exposed to new music.

There are a handful of wines that we regularly buy because we know we love them. Sometimes we try something new and find something better, more often it leads to disappointment. Our tastes evolve so we still take risks with new wines. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t have found any of our current favorites.

How long do you stick with your rotation before you mix things up?

Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Start as soon as you can

With anything we do that requires skill, it’s easy to imagine how much better we would be if we had started earlier. This seems especially true when you see someone much younger who is better than you. "If only I had started when I was that young!” There’s no going...

Friction

Friction sometimes prevents us from making progress. On a lazy Sunday afternoon, it was all I could do to get myself started on finishing our tax return. I looked for distractions, but seeing all the paperwork on the counter helped me muster the will to start. Once I...
