Money back guarantee

Money back guarantee

I sometimes buy products that I have doubts about if the product includes a money back guarantee. As much as I pride myself on awareness of manipulation techniques, advertising works on me just like it works on you.

In hindsight, I can scarcely think of a time that I asked for and got a refund. Either the products were good enough or I avoided the difficult process of seeking a refund. Is this why guarantees work so well? They persuade people to act and it is a rare person who follows though on the guarantee.

Do money back guarantees persuade you to buy? Have you ever successfully got your money back?

Hopefully, my questions cause you to reflect on your own thinking, relationships or choices. Maybe I even inspire you to make positive changes.

Thanks

Thanks

Why do you say thanks, to be polite or something more? When someone holds a door for you, a simple “Thank you” seems appropriate. Trish often makes breakfast or dinner for both of us; I say “thanks,” but is that enough or does it become empty because I say it every...

What if…

What if…

Often when something bad happens to us, we wonder if we could have done something differently. Maybe, but how do we know whether that would turn out better in the end? Things that are bad in the short term might be great on the long term. I remember doing poorly on my...

Sometimes you get lucky

Sometimes you get lucky

Back when I lived in London, I took my last Siberian Husky, Silverbear everywhere I could. He was a regular at The Old White Bear, the greatest pub we could have asked for, until it tragically closed due to developer greed. He also frequently joined me at CrossFit...

Are you enough?

Are you enough?

One of my favorite sports movies of all time is Cool Runnings, the story of the Jamaican bobsled team. It is such a great story about athletes who wanted to go to the Olympics so badly that they found a (very unlikely) way. There is so much inspiration in the movie;...

Conflicting Priorities

On a recent road trip, Trish and I had an interesting discussion about the frustration of conflicting priorities. Are conflicting priorities even possible? Not really. At any given time, you can have only one priority. If you have “conflicting priorities,” you have...

Serenity

The key to living a fulfilling life is captured elegantly in the Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference. When you are feeling angry,...

What if no one thinks like you do?

Even after more than a quarter century together, Trish and I still puzzle each other. Sometimes I think we are from different planets. It's a common occurrence for Trish to say something and me to respond, “What the heck are you even saying?” She then...

It’s funny how many of us get to the end of the week, excited by the approach of the weekend. If you work Monday through Friday, the weekend means freedom from the weekly grind. Saturdays are the best. Sunday nights definitely have a different feel than...

Come sail away

This post is inspired by a comment on one of my earlier posts. One of my devoted readers lamented the fact that she has not gone sailing because she has not yet learned how to back up the trailer. What a bummer! One of the things I miss about living close...

Can you care too much?

Can you care too much?

As a business owner, can you care too much? When you put so much of your passion, time and effort into your business, it's easy to merge your identity with the business. Is it who you are or is it what you do? If a potential customer decides not to buy, do...

One decision to rule them all

One decision to rule them all

Dealing with unwanted email helped me have a decision-making insight. Some decisions are so powerful that they eliminate the need for subsequent decisions. I kept getting "Nat Geo Kids" emails and was wondering why. I went to my account and realized there are many...
